1年 agoI love Avi’s optimism. When he spoke of the negative mass engine and how time dilation would effect the passengers, it reminded me of the belief that the center of our galaxy is a super black hole or a collection of black holes. Well, every sci-fi nerd knows about the time dilation effect generated by a black hole. So it occurred to me that time dilation zones could exist across our galaxy as concentric rings expanding from its center mass. Naturally, that would effect interstellar travel, so I then began to wonder if the time dilation effect of the negative mass engine and the time dilation effect of a galactic black hole would interact with each other in some calculable way, and what that might look like. 🤔

1年 agoSadly, there are a lot of narcissists out there in science, and in society in general. Their egos can not take being corrected, especially in public. These people will fight for their mistake to the death, rather than admit they have made a mistake. From what I have heard of Professor Loeb, he seems to be the kind of person who would admit a mistake, and he has a hard time understanding that not everyone can do this.

1年 agoDr. Loeb is one of my favorite guests. He’s not afraid to touch on the controversial topics and respond to criticism with the appropriate amount of science and facts.

1年 agoI believe most ships use a form of flashing lights when they do not want to break radio silence, so if you wanted to go into a place and contact a different life-form than your own, different light frequencies and timing might be a whole lot better than trying to send them a laser communication, which might be interpreted as a attack. Not to mention if they’re not Advanced enough to at least see the light then they’re probably not Advanced enough to contact in the first place. Yeah I always liked the Rama version better
